Annual Historymakers Awards Banquet
Since 1997, the Chinese American Museum has held the Annual Historymakers
Awards Banquet to honor the individuals and organizations which
have contributed toward the advancement of the Chinese American
community in the Fall season. Click here for past

The Getty Summer Multicultural Internship Program
Since 1993, the Friends of the Chinese American Museum (The
Friends) has annually received a Getty grant allowing the CAMLA
to train two summer interns every year. Interns' responsibilities
have included conducting historical research, developing exhibitions,
and assisting in artifact preservation and collection management.
The Virtual Museum
The Museum's website, located at the URL
http://www.camla.org/, reaches and educates internet surfers
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Virtual Museum features exhibition
schedules, volunteer information, newsletters, and the history
of Chinese Americans in Los Angeles.
Newsletters
Members, interns, volunteers and various contributing writers
work together to create the Friends quarterly newsletter for
the promotion of the Museum and its programs and services.
Fundraising for Museum Development
The Friends continues to seek support from the local community,
grant foundations, government agencies, and U.S. and overseas
corporations for the development of the Museum. In addition,
the Annual Historymaker Awards attracts new and continuing donors
from all over Southern California.
Gallery Exhibits
El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument and the Friends
co-sponsor Museum exhibits which are featured at the El Pueblo
Gallery, located on world famous Olvera Street. The CAMLA also
collaborates with other museums and community organizations
by sharing artifact collections, resources, and ideas to create
large-scale exhibits.
Traveling Exhibits
Since 1992, the Museum has created five portable exhibits. They
have traveled to libraries, malls, parks, banks, and schools
all over L.A. County, sharing the untold stories of Chinese
Americans with other Angelenos.
Lectures and Presentations
The Museum's curator has lectured at UCLA, Occidental College,
the Jewish Historical Society, and the Historical Society of
Southern California, among many other schools and community
organizations. In addition, the CAMLA organizes presentations
on diverse topics ranging from Chinese herbs and medicine to
Feng Shui.
Research Center
The Museum office serves as an resource center on the 150 year
Chinese American experience in Southern California. In addition,
the Friends and El Pueblo collaborate on historical studies
such as the Chinatown oral history project through which the
experiences of pioneer Chinese American families are recorded
and preserved.
Acquisition and Conservation
The Friends and El Pueblo work together to gather and curate
historical documents, photos, and artifacts, building the CAMLA's
collection for permanent exhibits.
