The Chinese American Museum has a new Online
Book Club
and invites you to join!
We are excited to announce the
re-opening of the CAM Book Club on Wednesday, November 16,
2005! We encourage you to join as a member and participate
in our in-depth discussion concerning Chinese Americans issues
through literature-reading.
This free easy-to-access online
club is a fun and casual way to critically evaluate and discuss
both objective and subjective topics and ideas pertaining
to selected books. Members are also invited to engage in a
creative dialogue about personal history, experiences, and
opinions as it relates to issues about race and culture in
the world today. At their own convenience, club members will
read a minimum of one book selected by the moderator, every
2-3 months.
You will be able to purchase
any selected book title at the CAM gift shop or any other
major book retailers, including online distributors. However,
we encourage you to support the Museum and its funding efforts
by purchasing your literature at our gift shop. As a book
club member, you will receive the benefit of purchasing any
selected book at a 10% discount at the CAM gift shop. If you
cannot afford the purchase of a book, arrangements may be
set up to allow for book-sharing between club members.
Starting off the new season
is Lisa See’s Snow Flower and the Secret Fan,
a novel describing the struggle and tribulations of being
a Chinese woman in the 19th century. Please join us we as
embark on a journey of understanding Chinese-American heritage
through various perspectives.
